I’m in Williamsburg for the day, doing a self-guided tour of the three local breweries. I’ll do a much larger post about the whole thing later. For now, guess my liquid lunch. As usual, just the type of beer, not a name. Edit: both done.
Edit: Double IPA on the left, New England style wild yeast IPA on the right.

Beer? During Ramadan?!

I’m Protestant, so I’m an infidel anyway.

Lager on the left, IPA on the right

Brown ale and hefeweizen?
![]() 06/24/2016 at 12:53 |

No on the left and half-yes on the right.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 12:53 |

Neither

Belgian ale left?
![]() 06/24/2016 at 12:56 |
|
Nope. The one on the right has been half-guessed as an IPA.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:01 |

Beer, more beer.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:01 |

Left = cider
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:01 |

You’re in Virginia, right? Please tell me you’re going to Busch Gardens, it’s a fantastic place.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:03 |

It is. I’m not going today (a bit odd going by myself) but I’ve been in years past.

are you drinking a nice cold glass of “Merica? (aka Budweiser)
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:05 |

Sure

Saw that. I give up.. I’ll only know with a taste test haha. Color’s not my jam.

Negative. They have a plant here in Williamsburg, but I’m not visiting it.

Negative

Both are types of IPAs.

Pilsner, Ale
I have no idea what either of those words mean.

You’re almost in my neck of the woods. I’m about an hour’s drive south.
As for those delicious goblets of nectar I’m guessing a maibock and summerbrau (assuming you’re at a Gordon Biersch)
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:11 |

The left could be a Pilsner, but looks a bit too dark for that maybe.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:12 |

Both are ales
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:13 |
|
Nope, they're both types of IPAs
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:13 |

Double IPA on the left, Belgian-style IPA on the right. But who knows, they keep inventing IPA variants every few weeks. Not complaining at all.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:14 |
|
The one on the right looks like a Tippel or an IPA.
The one on the left looks like a Bourbon Barrel Ale.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:14 |

I live on the southside of Richmond. Colonial Heights, specifically. And they’re both types of IPAs.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:14 |

I dunno, I just drink here
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:16 |
|
You got the left
You’re right about them inventing IPAs quickly. They have a pineapple IPA coming later today, but I won’t be here
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:17 |
|
Left is a double IPA. Right is an IPA but the type is unidentified.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:18 |

Gotcha. Don’t drink IPAs so wouldn’t know beyond that. They’re all too hoppy for me. I’m more of a Porter guy.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:22 |
|
They’re an acquired taste, for sure. It took me awhile to get into them, but now I like the hoppy taste they have. I like porters and stouts too, but I can taste the alcohol in them more now than I used to.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:30 |
|
I tend to prefer the alcohol taste to the hops taste.
Remember the Bitter Beer Face commercial? I can’t drink an IPA without pulling a similar face. It’s definetly an acquired taste. It’s probably very similar to how people feel about Gin. I love the Juniper flavour, but most people gringe at it.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:35 |

As someone who generally agrees with you, I’d recommend trying founder’s all day IPA. If you can’t enjoy that then yeah, give up on the ipa category entirely. I’ll drink that and 21 amendments back in black ipa, which I also recrecommend. But yeah, this double and triple ipa, hoppocalyse type stuff is like eating warheads. Nobody really enjoys it
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:45 |
|
Yeah, I remember the Bitter Beer ads. I was a teenager when they came out, so it was several years before I got into beer. I started really noticing the alcohol taste when I tried a beer with 20% ABV. Basically a mild liquor at that point haha
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:49 |
|
left: dunkel or brown ale by color. by choice of glass, it might be a barleywine.
right: light color and cloudiness make heffewizen possible, again the type of glass would indicate something of higher ABV, maybe a saison
Edit: I abandon all my previous guesses. Interstate366 says they're both IPA styles.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:53 |

Oh so you’re drinking these
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:56 |

I love warheads though. I once ate an entire bag of them over the course of an hour or so, and the inside of my mouth started peeling...
![]() 06/24/2016 at 13:58 |
|
Don’t think I’ve tried any above 16%, but yea, that’s a drink in its own category at that point. Not really a beer anymore.

Session IPA? And thanks for the invite....
![]() 06/24/2016 at 14:39 |

IPA on the right looks nice and juicy.
Unfiltered beer FTW!!!
Still no wild beers tho huh?
![]() 06/24/2016 at 14:46 |

Double IPA and either a grapefruit or pineapple IPA
![]() 06/24/2016 at 14:53 |

Left is a double, right is a New England style
![]() 06/24/2016 at 14:55 |
|
It's a New England style wild yeast IPA, so I'll give you that one.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 14:56 |

New England style wild yeast IPA. And I'm planning to check out Steam Bell Beer Works off Genito Road next Saturday if you want to meet up.
![]() 06/24/2016 at 15:10 |

Damn, that sounds tasty! I’ve never seen a New England IPA in Ohio, now I gotta have one!

It was fantastic. Literally just brewed before I ordered it. I’m at the second brewery now, which is the last one of the day since the third one is in the middle of moving and thus not open. Also got a new pair of driving shoes.

Hoegarden on the right?
![]() 06/24/2016 at 18:55 |

No, New England style IPA with wild yeast. Forgot to edit the post when it was guessed.

Double IPA and New England style wild yeast IPA, respectively.

The difference between ale and lager (of which pilsner is one type) is better explained by an expert.

It's time to join in the beer swilling. I gotta GTFO of work.
